They identify the defining characteristics of each bluegrass instrument and participate in a bluegrass version of bingo.

The Sandy Ridge Community Center’s Bingo Fundraiser is this Saturday at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6. Hot dogs will be for sale with homemade chili and slaw. Proceeds are for the maintenance and upkeep of our Community Building. Social distancing guidelines will be followed and face coverings will be required.

Make plans to attend the Third Annual Bluegrass Open Jam on April 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at The Stanley Farm. Bring a chair and enjoy music all day. Food trucks will be set up and several vendors will be selling homemade crafts.

The Lawsonville Ruritan Club will be selling bales of pine needles for its Spring fundraiser for $5 each. Bales will be ready for pick-up on March 27. If you order 20 or more, they will deliver to the Lawsonville area free of charge. Orders must be placed by March 11.

The Sandy Ridge Ruritan Club would like to thank to everyone who purchased from its “Mrs. Pumpkins” fundraiser in what was a record sale for our club: 489 items were sold. Proceeds benefit the North Stokes High School Senior Scholarship Fund.

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Wilma Mabe Freeman, 91, who passed away on Feb. 8; and Iris Marie Hall Glidewell, 79, who passed away Feb. 13.

TRIED AND TASTED RECIPE:

Bluegrass Bingo Paducah Ky

Meatloaf (Pioneer Woman)

1 cup milk

Bluegrass Bingo Hall Lexington Ky

6 slices bread

2 lbs. ground beef

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 tsp. salt

¼ tsp. seasoned salt

¼ tsp. pepper

Bluegrass Bingo Hall

¼-½ cup minced flat leaf parsley

4 eggs, beaten

8-12 bacon slices

For the tomato gravy:

1½ cup ketchup

6 Tbs. brown sugar

1 tsp. dry mustard

Pour milk over bread and allow to soak in for several minutes. Place ground beef, bread, cheese, salt, seasoned salt, pepper and parsley in large bowl. Pour in eggs. Mix with hands until combined. Form into loaf and place in broiler pan. Lay bacon slices over top tucking them underneath the meatloaf. Make tomato gravy. Stir until well combined and pour 1/3 gravy over top of meatloaf. Bake for 45 minutes, then pour 1/3 of gravy over top and bake for 15 minutes. Serve remaining gravy on the side.

I have made this several times and it is delicious!
