The English League One, a league tougher than you think
Football League One, or EFL League One, is the third level of English football. Back in the day, before the introduction of the Premier League in 1992, it was simply called the Third Division. The League One season runs from August to May, parallel to the Premier League and English Cup competitions. The league comprises 24 teams, which makes it a 46-game marathon campaign for the clubs involved.
League One games come thick and fast. Teams will play most Saturdays, with midweek games also very common. While this may be tough on the players, it's brilliant for football fans and punters.
League One teams that finish in the top two places are automatically promoted to the English Championship. The following four teams must then contest two-legged play offs for the privilege of competing in the playoff final at Wembley Stadium.
